It’s a great way to show appreciation for the Negroni, a cocktail that has stood the test of time and our cause. The Negroni is a QT favourite and an acquired taste – so we’re hoping to entice the unfamiliar with the signature and modern mixes.”

SOUTHERN DISCOVERIES EXPANDS IN-DEPTH EXPERIENCE OF MILFORD SOUND

Following the successful launch of Southern Discoveries Milford Sound Coach & Cruise day trips last year, the company is set to introduce even more in-depth and personalised experiences in this iconic New Zealand landscape.

After investing in a fleet of state-of-the-art coaches in 2017, Southern Discoveries went on to make twice daily trips to Milford Sound from Queenstown, connecting with their Milford Sound Nature Cruise and Scenic Cruise.

Now Southern Discoveries is further expanding its premium fleet, with the purchase of a new, smaller-than-industry-standard 37-seat coach, which sports the same first-rate features as the larger coaches (excluding the onboard toilet).

The purpose-built, low-emissions coaches feature an extra-wide glass roof that makes the most of the majestic alpine scenery on this world-renowned journey. Passenger comfort is also taken care of with reclining seats, extra leg room, USB charging ports, air conditioning and multi-lingual head set commentary.

Southern Discoveries CEO Tim Hunter says the smaller coach will allow the company to offer even more in-depth experiences of what many consider to be the trip of a lifetime.

“At Southern Discoveries, our team of local experts have always ensured each and every guest gets to enjoy a unique, authentic experience in this piece of paradise we call home,” he says.

“This new, smaller coach service will cater to customers who want an even more personalised and in-depth experience between Queenstown and Milford Sound, much like our current Go Milford Day Trip which departs daily from Te Anau.”

The new coach will mean the introduction of a 8.15am daily summer departure from Queenstown, connecting to Southern Discoveries signature Milford Sound Discover More cruise package, which includes a Nature Cruise, visit to the Milford Sound Underwater Observatory and Picnic Lunch. The coach will connect to the company’s new smaller boat, Lady Stirling, which also launched last year.

Southern Discoveries will also be offering Milford Sound Coach, Cruise & Kayak experiences from Queenstown in summer, departing at 7.00am. Kayaking in Milford Sound has become one of the company’s most popular trips in recent years and this is the first time they will be able to offer a trip from Queenstown by road rather than flight.

The 2018/19 season will also see Southern Discoveries offering their Milford Sound Discover More package off Scenic Cruises, in addition to Nature and Encounter Nature Cruises, and with an option to upgrade the Picnic Lunch to a hot Buffet Lunch.

The move will cater to the growing Chinese and other Asian FIT markets seeking more authentic and personal experiences.

The launch of these new coach and cruise products continues the significant investment Southern Discoveries has made into its Milford Sound and Queenstown operations in order to meet growing tourism demands.

Other new experiences introduced by the company over recent years include scenic cruises on Lake Wakatipu and half-day cycling and high-country farm experiences in Queenstown.

QT Queenstown Attracts Strong International Interest

Queenstown’s newest hotel, QT Queenstown, is resonating strongly with overseas visitors. Since opening, December 2017, the boutique hotel has sold close to 19,000 experiences to visitors from over 17 countries.

General Manager QT Hotels in New Zealand, Simon White believes the design-led hotel with breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables mountain range, combined with its friendly and engaging staff, ticks so many boxes for international visitors.

“When you’re visiting another country it’s so important to feel welcome, special and excited about where you are staying. We’re receiving rave reviews about the attention to detail that not only our staff provide guests, but also about the design of the hotel. Visitors from overseas literally ‘pinch’ themselves waking up to the dramatic scenery QT Queenstown offers. There is nothing else like QT in Queenstown.”

Designed by the internationally acclaimed Nic Graham, there is a sense of intrigue as with all QT Hotels but White says it’s also about belonging.

“Given Queenstown’s fantastic sense of freedom with its expansive lake and grand mountains, the QT Queenstown design concept was to make people feel the freedom to be sporty or part of nature or even just relaxed in the hotel but feel at one with the intense scenery out your window. There are stunning pieces of art, strategic uses of copper throughout the hotel and a suspended fireplace that brings together the vintage and contemporary aspects of the hotel.”

QT Queenstown offers designer bathrooms, with luxurious deep baths and amenities, several options of room inclusions and packages, while the rooms are decorated with locally sourced items, all of which are available to be purchased.

“Queenstown is home to a number of talented artists and well as artisan food craft. It’s about show casing this but also having some fun. The mini-bar has been a real hit, complete with Central Otago wine, treats from The Remarkable Sweet Shop alongside quirky items such as a bespoke Natty tote bag and Pocket Hotty.”

Even the food served pays homage to the abundance of flora, fauna and livestock of the Central Otago region. QT Queenstown’s Bazaar Interactive Marketplace recreates the traditional marketplace with a unique twist. With an ever-changing menu to ensure the freshest in season produce, the developed palates of the most discerning foodies leave satisfied and intrigued. Reds Bar, is the perfect spot for drinks pre or post dinner boasting the best views in Queenstown.

Americans are embracing QT Queenstown in high numbers, as are Australians, the English and Chinese and with winter not too far away the ski town will also attract Europeans wanting to experience a Southern Hemisphere winter.

“We couldn’t be happier with how the hotel is rating. QT Queenstown is our second QT in New Zealand, the other being QT Museum Wellington which was also unveiled in 2017. The brand has really appealed to our international guests as our fellow New Zealanders, and off the back of this we are definitely looking for other suitable possibilities to expand the QT offering in New Zealand, with Auckland being a priority.”

Neill & Ceillhe Sperath from TIME Unlimited Tours with Tania Tarawa from ATEED

TIME Unlimited Tours – ‘Winning Formula continues with Luxury Eco-Cultural Experiences”

There is no doubt, they have the luck of their Irish heritage, as Ceillhe & Neill Sperath, KaiTohu (Founders/Directors) of TIME Unlimited Tours have another award to add to their extensive list of industry accolades.  Their awards spanning their 14 years in this business are across a diverse business spectrum not just in the Tourism and C&I sectors for which they are best known.  Their latest award is a National MWDI Maori Business Award recognizing them as a regional winner for Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland region).  This regional award was sponsored and presented by Tania Tarawa, Maori Economic Development Manager for ATEED (Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development agency of Auckland Council.

TIME (“To Integrate Maori Experiences”) Unlimited Tours is one of New Zealand’s most iconic tour operators and one of the country’s most-awarded tourism businesses.  Neill, Ceillhe as well as their award-winning team take their manuhiri (valued guests) on a wonderful journey through Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) and throughout Aotearoa (New Zealand). Their highly-personalised, FIT, group and private tours in luxury vehicles and highly-qualified guides showcase their local delights to excite all the senses to help visitors gain a sense of time, space and place.  Auckland Tours comprise their Auckland City & West Coast Luxury Tour, Auckland Highlights Tour, Auckland West Coast Tour, Auckland Maori Tour and Guided Wilderness Walks, allowing their guests to discover the most spectacular spots in around Auckland as New Zealand’s largest and most vibrant city.  Private Luxury Tours explore throughout NZ’s North and South Islands. Māori Women’s Development Inc is a unique, Indigenous financial institution formed by Māori women, controlled, managed and operated by Māori women, for the economic development of Māori Women and their whānau. Over 80 applications were received for these awards, resurrected after a 10-year hiatus, presenting awards across the 8 Maori regions defined for these national awards.  Once entered for a regional award, applicants were able to then enter up to 2 out of a possible 6 business categories.  For further info check out www.mwdi.co.nz The MWDI Judges comments included “TIME Unlimited leaders in the luxury tourism sector. Their years of experience and in-depth understanding of their market has allowed them to exceed company milestones while also producing a strong financial return.  Great opportunity to showcase Aotearoa New Zealand hospitality.”

TIME Unlimited Tours’ extensive and varied range of luxury tours has been developed over the past decade and in 2015, while celebrating the company’s 10th anniversary, launched their new brand identity, incorporating a logo which continues to symbolize their deep connection to Maori culture. The new brand message “OUR NEW ZEALAND, YOUR WAY” highlights the emphasis of placing visitors’ requirements at the centre of everything they do.  TIME Unlimited Tours leads the way in Ecotourism and is highly aware of its responsibilities in the tourism sector. For its commitment and outstanding services, TIME Unlimited Tours has now won 3 Global Tourism Awards including the National Geographic World Legacy Award 2016, as well as many national awards.  TIME Unlimited was invited to be an early adopter of the Tourism Sustainability Commitment.  Launched on 14 November 2017, the New Zealand Tourism Sustainability Commitment aims to see every New Zealand tourism business committed to sustainability by 2025.

When asked what this latest award means to them and their business Ceillhe replied “Putting yourself out for a national award against others you equally respect and value as industry peers is not an easy undertaking but the process does allow you to benchmark yourself against business excellence criteria and continually articulate what your business stands for and what you have achieved against defined objectives and outcomes.  We enter not only for the kudos awards bring but also to strive to better our business every time, all the time (excuse the pun!). It is our belief that if you don’t see yourself as a winner, then you cannot perform as a winner.  Instead one of our business mantras in our team is that anyone can be ordinary but its more fun to be EXTRAordinary!”

As a national luxury tour operator, TIME Unlimited provides unique and client-centred services to support those involved in managing conferences, special events, meetings, incentive programmes and exhibitions. Whether hosting in Auckland or as part of their regional itineraries their point of difference is to add value through their experience and diverse range of services – no tour, incentive programme, event, meeting, kiwi/maori cultural exchange or eco-focussed occasion is too large or too small!

TIME Unlimited Tours, values its active membership of several industry bodies and is excited about the timing of this award as they prepare to be a luxury exhibitor at the annual MEETINGS event held by CINZ, of which they are a silver member. MEETINGS is being held on the 30 & 31 May at the ASB Showgrounds as the annual preeminent trade event for the Conferences & Incentives sector attracting international, national and corporate buyers to meet with NZ’s best industry exhibitors.  TIME Unlimited – is Auckland’s only integrated Luxury Maori MICE service provider where TIME stands for ‘Tours-Incentives-Meetings/Maori-Events’. Delivering unique and client-centred services to support those involved in managing conferences, events, meetings, incentive programmes, maori/kiwi cultural experiences through our core values of – Manaakitanga (Hospitality) – Panekiretanga (Excellence) – Kaitiakitanga (Sustainability) – Kotahitanga (Collaboration).

Neill Sperath explained “Our reputation has been built on a client-centric business model where it’s all about focus on people & the environment. We have been regularly awarded or endorsed in the two areas of delivering consistently high-quality client experiences and sustainable business ethics. Our business values are: Manaakitanga (Hospitality) – Panekiretanga (Excellence) – Kaitiakitanga (Sustainability) – Kotahitanga (Collaboration).”

TIME Limited’s, unique experiences are further enhanced by a seasonal theme and storyline which ensures that a relevant seasonal, regional and cultural thread is maintained, and the storytelling and hosting is delivered in luxury.  This seasonal and regional focus aligns with the four-year strategy for Tourism New Zealand to attract visitors to new regions during off-peak seasons and with the 2019 China-New Zealand Year of Tourism providing experiences that many overseas visitors are seeking.

Ceillhe Sperath of TIME Unlimited Tours goes on to say “our premium offering is about delivering a 2-way dialogue and interactive culturally-based, seasonally-themed and regionally-focussed luxury itineraries for the discerning premium market.  At TIME Unlimited Tours we draw our strength from our brand which utilises the Pikorua symbol, based on the premise that sharing our living culture is the cornerstone of any experience.  As Maori we believe there is a spiritual merger of two people or peoples for eternity – in essence what the Tourism and Conferences & Incentives sectors are all about, leaving a lasting positive impression. Furthermore, our expressed aim is to engage and excite our visitors by using all their senses but it is the unique sixth sense we have as Maori that is the real point of difference for those travelling to seek what they cannot find or replicate anywhere else in the world.  Visitors want access to meet our people in their places of origin.  The focus is to add value with regional and seasonal feel that we believe will gain global appeal”.

TIME Unlimited Tours’ Cultural Collection will soon offer new products to complete the Four Seasons Five Senses campaign for Spring TIME Collection, Summer TIME Collection and Autumn TIME Collection to compliment its Winter TIME Collection developed with Matariki – the Maori New Year as the focus. Southern Discoveries appoints new International Sales Manager for western markets

Premium Queenstown and Milford Sound tourism operator Southern Discoveries has appointed tourism specialist Wendy van Dijk as International Sales Manager for the western markets.

Ms. van Dijk has more than a decade of experience with a number of leading travel and tourism operators in New Zealand and abroad. She will focus on managing and developing sales activities and relationships throughout the UK, Europe, and North and South America.

Director of Sales and Marketing Julia Savill has been managing western market sales, but the significant growth for the company out of the Americas and Europe created the need for a dedicated, full time sales role.

“There’s a real opportunity to expand our western market sales presence with Wendy focussed on these regions,” says Ms. Savill.

“Wendy has an extensive background in sales strategy and account management, and has developed a strong network of travel industry relationships which will be valued within our team,” says Ms. Savill.

Ms. van Dijk’s passion for the outdoors and her enthusiasm for her new role has been welcomed by the company.

Prior to joining Southern Discoveries, Wendy was sales and product executive for NZSki Limited which owns and operates Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables ski areas.

Before that, Ms. van Dijk held roles with Glacier Explorers in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park and spent three years with Topdeck Travel in their London head office.

Ms. van Dijk says she is very much looking forward to being part of the Southern Discoveries team.

“I’ve long time considered Southern Discoveries as one of the leaders in New Zealand tourism delivering exceptional nature experiences in Fiordland and Queenstown.”

She adds, “I started my tourism career in North America and the UK so I’m looking forward to getting back there and encouraging visitors to experience our beautiful part of the world with Southern Discoveries.”
