Spectacular ‘green weddings’ inspire couples to eco-elope to Queenstown

It is the ultimate in love, sustainability and adventure.

A group of Queenstown businesses have teamed up to create dream ‘green wedding’ packages to help New Zealand-based couples tie the knot in unique and inspiring ways this summer.

And to celebrate the launch of the initiative, the wedding collective is running a ‘Tell Us Your Love Story’ competition which will culminate in one lucky couple winning a Forest Eco-Elopement wedding package worth nearly $6,000.

The competition will invite couples to enter to win an ‘eco-elopement’ in Queenstown between 1 February and 30 April 2021 (with blackout dates over Easter), allowing them to make the most of its spectacular scenery, world-class experiences and long summer and autumn days.

Sarah Arkin, of Simply Mindful Weddings, and Ziptrek Ecotours are leading the initiative and Mrs Arkin says they’re delighted to be working with other like-minded local businesses to share the love.

“We’re seeing couples wanting to be more mindful with their wedding plans and they are looking for smaller, more intimate, more affordable, and environmentally-conscious weddings that truly reflect who they are as a couple,” she says.

“In essence, couples are looking for ceremonies that have more meaning, and less waste.  Weddings don’t have to cost the earth, and we believe the focus should be on celebrating two people taking the next step on their journey together.”

Mrs Arkin says Simply Mindful Weddings has the experience to make peoples’ wedding dreams come true with over 10 years of planning Queenstown weddings, alongside a genuine commitment to sustainability and mindfulness with the packages on offer. Its community focus means they work with Queenstown owned and operated businesses that are “incredibly talented” at what they do and are excited to be leading the way towards a more sustainable wedding industry.

Ziptrek Ecotours Sales & Marketing Manager Nicky Busst believes the initiative is a “marriage made in heaven” for local businesses.

“A simple celebration of your love surrounded by nature and spectacular views creates a setting that can’t help but get you in the romantic mindset,” she says.

“We know this year has been tough for many couples around New Zealand and we want to help them bring their dream wedding to life here in Queenstown. Our treehouses provide unique staging platforms enabling a fun and affordable wedding while also caring for our environment and community.”

The ‘Tell Us Your Love Story’ competition launches on December 1 with entries closing at 4pm on December 10.  To enter, couples must reside in New Zealand and submit their love story, including why they think an eco-elopement would be perfect for them, via the Simply Mindful Weddings website.

The Eco Elopement prize package up for grabs includes:

  • A unique ceremony venue set high amongst the treetops on Bob’s Peak with stunning views over Queenstown made exclusively available by innovative zipline company Ziptrek Ecotours.  The happy couple will be whisked down their exhilarating treetop ziplines after they say ‘I Do’
  • A paperless ceremony personally crafted for each couple by Queenstown local celebrant Andrew Bell
  • A sustainable floral package, including a dried floral bridal bouquet and buttonhole or a seasonal fresh floral bridal bouquet and buttonhole locally foraged by The Flower Room
  • Organic, locally produced New Zealand bubbles for their first toast
  • Help with obtaining their marriage licence and providing two legally-required witnesses
  • A photography package for up to two hours of ceremony coverage and additional location photos, professionally edited and provided digitally by Rich Bayley Photography
  • Bespoke planning and ‘day of’ coordination by Simply Mindful wedding professionals to ensure no trace is left behind
  • Planting of New Zealand native trees in the couple’s name through conservation charity Trees That Count.

Competition entries will be reviewed and voted on collectively by all the prize package sponsors and the winning couple will be announced live via the Simply Mindful Instagram on December 11.

CEO and general manager Mark Rose said, “During a year of extreme challenges for the tourism and hospitality sectors worldwide, we are thrilled to again be recognised and, to double down on winning both these prestigious global awards. This recognition for the level of excellence our hotel continually strives for, is a reflection on the commitment of our team and a credit to their outstanding achievements on a daily basis, despite the global pandemic.”

Innovative zipline company Ziptrek Ecotours ‘Treehouse Sessions’ back for an encore

Innovative zipline company Ziptrek Ecotours, based in Queenstown, is returning with another musical adventure after the success of its inaugural ‘Treehouse sessions’ event earlier this year.

Like all tourism business, 2020 challenged Ziptrek to undertake a complete rethink of its product offering, so the collaboration between two struggling industries – adventure tourism and the performing arts – was a ‘match made in the trees’ that delivered an outstanding community event.

Formerly inspired in May, straight out of lockdown, the event was a unique contribution to New Zealand Music Month. The sold-out sessions were so successful they’re doing it all again, with the weekend of November 28 and 29 set to host a new and eclectic mix of local musicians and DJ sets in its zipline tree decks, up to 25m above the ground.

Renowned for its ten-year commitment to sustainability and conservation, Ziptrek decided to pivot to the people with an offer to give a ‘platform’ to other local people equally affected by lockdown in the performance and arts communities.

Ziptrek Ecotours executive director Trent Yeo says they’re excited to again use their architecturally-designed tree houses and skilled guides as the mechanism for taking visitors through a new cultural adventure with a difference.

“Back in May it was heart-warming to hear music resounding through the trees, the sound of community, after being shut down for a couple of months and it’s safe to say that people just loved it,” he says.

“We hoped all along to develop the concept of Ziptrek as one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in the world over this summer, so we’re thrilled it’s all coming together again.”

Local musician and event organiser Scott Kennedy is once again curating the music for the weekend event, with a new and diverse line up of local artists.

He says bringing back The Treehouse Sessions back is a “great way” to welcome spring to the Wakatipu.

“We’ve got a fantastic and eclectic collection of performers on deck for Zippers this time,” he says. “From soulful acoustic guitarists, duos with souring harmonies and DJ’s ready to rock the (tree)house, it’s going to be an awesome weekend!”

Earlybird pricing of $95 per person for the sessions is available until November 22 and all tickets include a beverage at local café and restaurant Yonder (best consumed after a trip!). Would-be guests are advised to get in quick for bookings with a limited number of spots available between 10am and 7pm on Saturday November 28 and 10am and 6pm on Sunday. Full-price tickets will be $105 per person.

Bookings are essential and can be bought online at ziptrek.co.nz or by contacting Ziptrek on 0800 ZIPTREK.

Fiordland summer campaign launches with release of new website

Fiordland is laying out the proverbial red carpet for visitors this summer as the region launches its ‘reset for 2021’ summer campaign.

Summer in Fiordland is a beautiful thing, and a holiday in this place of overwhelming natural beauty is designed to press the re-set button on the year most of us would rather forget.

The new campaign, targeting domestic travelers and positioning Te Anau as ‘base camp’ for Fiordland adventures, highlights their ‘must-do’s’ (which they’re calling the Great Eights) for visitors who want to experience the best of New Zealand wildlife, cuisine hiking and iconic destinations.

It’s all in the spirit of British writer Rudyard Kipling who declared Milford Sound the eighth wonder of the world back in the 1890’s.

And to make it as easy as can be for visitors to pick and choose between activities and locations guaranteed to make these summer holidays a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Destination Fiordland has launched its brand new Fiordland-Beyond Belief website.

The site is designed to position Fiordland in the minds of domestic travelLers as the ultimate destination to explore and spend time, to educate them about things to do in the region and encourage them to book direct.

The campaign and website come hot on the heels of the launch of new brand Fiordland – Beyond Belief just two short months after Covid ravaged the area’s tourism industry, already reeling after serious flooding damaged access routes and attractions in the area.

But like all good towns that ‘walk the talk’ when it comes to pride in their slice of paradise, Te Anau picked itself up and got back to opening the eyes of domestic visitors to their unique, inspiring, authentic and unmissable part of Aotearoa New Zealand.

The new website draws in potential visitors from around New Zealand who are on a mission to experience glacier-carved cliffs, dense rainforest, pumping waterfalls and the best walking tracks in the country, particularly those who have already made bookings on one of the Great Walks.

The ‘great eights’ – lists of must-do’s in the region — include insights on top locations for wow-factor money shots, foodie favourites from fine dining experiences to a quick but exceptionally good pie, eight great hikes and the lowdown on great wildlife encounters with everything from alpine parrots to reclusive rare and endangered birds and chubby fur seals.

Te Anau is a small town with a big heart, the perfect base camp for summer adventures. The famed Southland hospitality is real, and visitors are welcomed with open arms and treated like a local.

In the summer lush green rainforest abounds, with bright red flowers of the Southern rata (the southern native Christmas tree) dotted throughout.  Temperatures on summer afternoons can soar into the high 20’s so a dip in the lakes, a quiet moment on a stand-up paddle board, a cast of the fishing line or picnic on the beach are all great ways to spend time in Te Anau.

Summer must-do’s include boat cruises on Lake Te Anau or kayaking in Milford (Piopiotahi) or Doubtful (Patea) sounds to spot rare dolphins, penguins and fur seals.  Charter cruises provide outstanding fishing, diving and ocean-to-plate crayfish experiences and there’s a myriad of activities in Te Anau from Glowworm Caves to cycling or just relaxing by the lake like a local.

Take to the air to appreciate the sheer grandeur of towering mountains, glacial-carved valleys, thundering waterfalls and this magnificent coastline.

“Fiordland is incredible at any time of the year, but  summertime is pretty special and we know it will be a huge drawcard for Kiwis looking to spend this summer reconnecting with nature and taking the chance to have a genuine world-class experiences in their own backyard,” says Destination Fiordland manager Madeleine Peacock.

“The new website is a stunning showcase for everything we’ve got to offer and easy to navigate for those looking for inspiration and guidance when booking their ultimate summer getaway.”

CBD oil: a remedy for arthritis

CBD oil represents very effective treatments effective at soothing the characteristic pain a result of osteoarticular pathologies including arthritis: the large presence of CBD or cannabidiol, among the best-known metabolites of cannabis, in reality performs a marked and significant pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory action, a good choice for conferring relief, significantly reducing painful states and allowing to handle with tranquility the most common way of life, made however difficult precisely due to pathology.

By virtue of their innumerable beneficial properties, CBD oil itself should therefore not be underestimated by physicians and also by individuals with this disorder: in reality, this derivative of cannabis sativa constitutes a powerful alternative therapy on par using the now well-known therapeutic cannabis.

What is arthritis, what it’s a result of, and what symptoms it could cause

Countless scientific researches hypothesize that CBD oil may play a crucial role within the treatments for arthritis, this due to the active component’s own anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, thus proving to become a viable and effective therapy that will alleviate chronic pain.

What is rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis, identified from the acronym “RA,” is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that will affect joints electively.

Among osteoarticular diseases, arthritis rheumatoid undoubtedly constitutes essentially the most severe form in terms of structural harm to the joints, it is because the risk of possible extra-articular complications and mortality is high. As is generally the case while using main autoimmune diseases, within the case of arthritis, the body’s defence mechanism is liable for this pathology, which, as an alternative to defending the body from external aggressions, tends on the contrary to fight healthy tissues, not identifying them consequently.

Representing the target of antibodies in such cases could be the so-called synovial membrane, the lining of joints that permits their movement. This membrane reacts to inflammation by increasing its volume and thus giving rise on the “synovial cloth,” which, since it gradually expands, causes the progressive degradation of cartilage until it involves the bones and surrounding tissues. Hence originates the disabling condition that is likely to involve those who have suffered with arthritis for quite a while, inflammation that inside long term, can compromise the muscles, bloodstream, lungs and kidneys, to a the nervous system, heart and visual apparatus.

Causes of arthritis

The reasons for arthritis rheumatoid to date usually are not completely known: the only thing certain will be the characteristic multifactorial pathogenesis. However, in genetically predisposed individuals, it may be obviously any good single triggering event that proves in charge of the characteristic joint inflammation.

Scientific research to date has actually identified several risk factors, genetic along with environmental: however, the onset of the condition may depend upon gender, age, and exposure to cigarette. Dietary and hormonal factors in addition to possible infectious agents also play a tremendous role.

Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis

Typical main signs of rheumatism are represented by intense tenderness, swelling, stiffness as well as progressive loss of function in the involved joints. Pain, the main symptom, is spontaneous, continuous, present even resting, although improving slightly by movement.

Joint stiffness usually appears particularly intense upon awakening which enable it to easily persist all night, or even the entire day: this peculiarity has a tendency to differentiate rheumatoid arthritis symptoms off their joint diseases for example osteoarthritis, where stiffness tends to resolve within a few minutes.

While loss in function will appear within the early stage of the illness, beginning from synovitis, joint deformities and ankylosis can certainly occur in the advanced stage.

The joints are often involved bilaterally and symmetrically, and this is really a typical feature in the pathology. The most exposed will be the joints of the feet and hands, as well as wrists, shoulders, elbows, ankles, and knees.

What is CBD oil

CBD oil is a valuable derivative of cannabis sativa, which is purchased from the female inflorescences, a similar ones that hold a top concentration of cannabinoid active ingredients, through specific extraction techniques. Extremely concentrated and effective within the therapeutic and medical fields, CBD oil involves special manufacturing processes targeted at the extraction of cannabidiol, integrated only later to your so-called carrier oil.

Precisely CBD or cannabidiol is thus extracted by means of techniques that can employ either alcoholic solvents or carbon dioxide: in both cases, the main objective is to obtain CBD crystals with a top amount of purity and completely decarboxylated. However, techniques that boast the usage of co2 should be preferred since it does not affect in any way the integrity and also the very purity of the product obtained.

The essence is subsequently filtered and integrated while using carrier oil in a way that it is perfectly bioavailable, mitigating the characteristic flavor of these extract, which just isn’t exactly pleasant.

This produces ready-to-use, therapeutic-grade CBD oil, which can be trusted inside treatment of a wide range of diseases.

How CBD oil may prove effective in treating arthritis symptoms

CBD oil has revealed countless positive and beneficial effects inside treating rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. As suggested with the entire scientific community, CBD or cannabidiol itself would be able to significantly reduce the pain and inflammation linked to this complaint, thus constituting an alternative solution therapy to standard treatments.

In fact, this active component not simply modulates those activities of immune cells responsible for major joint damage, but additionally progressively reduces inflammation and inhibits the transmission of pain, alleviating its perception.

Confirming these effects is research conducted on mice this agreement CBD based on cannabis sativa was administered once arthritis was induced by collagen injections, which progressively slowed the growth of the disease. The same study also established that CBD injections in addition to oral consumption with the ingredient had a similar effects, provided by a day-to-day dosage of 25mg/Kg.

CBD oil also helps against rheumatoid arthritis symptoms

Among the primary benefits of CBD oil appears the particularly positive effect that the ingredient itself has on arthritis sufferers, where precisely the legal CBD or cannabidiol helps reduce chronic pain, thereby also improving “quality of life.”

This is confirmed by a similar scientific research: a report conducted in December 2017 and published within the journal Pain analyzed how CBD or cannabidiol was able to prevent arthritis pain and joint neuropathy. Based on their findings, the identical researchers could actually see and corroborate the thesis that saw this ingredient as perfectly capable of reducing both conditions, leading to a resolution of inflammation while performing a marked protective action on nerves.

Although to this day, however, legal cannabis represents an object of study and considerable interest on the part in the entire scientific community, there is really a need to take concrete note of the company’s innumerable benefits. A step forward has been made precisely thanks towards the introduction of therapeutic cannabis, the use of which can be regulated with the Ministry of Health: however, awareness and appropriate experiments are essential that may fully liberalize the usage of CBD oil and all the related and beneficial derivatives of cannabis open to patients today.

Venture Taranaki launch ‘Taranaki – Just around the corner’ domestic tourism campaign

This week, Venture Taranaki launched its domestic campaign, designed to attract visitation to the region. The digital campaign ‘Taranaki – Just around the corner’ is set to encourage out-of-town visitation to support the region’s COVID-19 recovery and promote Taranaki’s vibrant arts, events and outdoor attractions this spring and summer.

The ‘Taranaki – Just around the corner’ digital campaign will run in bursts of activity over the next two months, targeting the 50-plus age group. Key flight and drive-journey markets have been targeted, such as Auckland, Wellington, Bay of Plenty and Manawatu-Whanganui.

Tourism spend within Taranaki totalled $380 million in the year ending August 2020, of which 80% came from domestic tourism.

“Almost 80 per cent of visitors to Taranaki are from New Zealand; we are set up for domestic visitors. Our tourism, accommodation and hospitality operators are ready and waiting to welcome New Zealanders to the region with open arms,” Justine continues.

The campaign highlights Taranaki’s stunning landscapes, range of outdoor adventure and activities, vibrant arts and dining scene, and a jam-packed spring and summer event line-up. The region’s experiences will showcase across a digital and social media campaign, print and editorial and partnership activity.

Taranaki is in a unique location between Taranaki Maunga and the ocean. The region is easily accessible, only a short flight away or less than 4 hours to drive from most areas in the North Island.

“The ‘Just around the corner’ messaging is all about inspiring people to have the perfect getaway, reunite with their passions and discover the beauty and vibrancy of Taranaki – only a short distance away,” explains Vicki.

“We have so much going on in the region to offer visitors, with the Taranaki Garden Festival kicking off later this month alongside a multitude of art, entertainment and food festival events. Not to mention the iconic TSB Festival of Lights and the Bowl of Brooklands hosting some of New Zealand’s top kiwi music artists throughout January,” says Vicki.

Other out-of-region activity driven by Venture Taranaki is a Taranaki Spring Escape competition that featured on TV3’s The Café and a targeted Air New Zealand promotion with the opportunity to win an exciting Taranaki summer experience.

All campaign activity aims to continue to build regional awareness and position Taranaki as a vibrant destination with high-quality attractions, facilities, activities and events.
